Energy boils in Europe. Oil at 100 dollars and natural gas at 44-month highs

Jornal de Negócios9 September 2026 at 22:30

Energy prices surged in Europe, with Brent oil returning to the 100 dollars per barrel level and European natural gas reaching 44-month highs. This price escalation is worrying markets and European consumers.

European reference natural gas has accumulated a rise of over 150% since the start of the war in Iran, contributing to a scenario of energy uncertainty on the continent. The International Energy Agency issued warnings about the situation.

European stock exchanges reacted downward to the geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, reflecting investors' fears regarding instability in the region and its impact on global energy markets.

This context of rising prices for oil and natural gas comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension, with the conflict in Iran exerting additional pressure on global energy markets.
