A 69-year-old man died after being stung by an Asian wasp on the head during the grape harvest in Felgueiras. The incident occurred while the victim was participating in the grape picking activity, when he was struck by the insect.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the man was already in cardiopulmonary arrest. Despite the efforts of the emergency teams, it was not possible to reverse the situation and the man ended up dying.
The Asian wasp, also known as the yellow-legged hornet, is an invasive species that has proliferated in several regions of the country. Its sting can trigger severe allergic reactions, especially when it strikes sensitive areas such as the head or neck.
This case once again alerts to the dangers associated with the presence of this species in Portuguese territory, particularly during agricultural activities carried out outdoors.
