Councilman Nivaldo Magagnin, from the MDB party in the city of Treze de Maio, Santa Catarina, died Wednesday morning (9) after suffering a work accident. He had turned 63 on Tuesday, the 8th. Known as "Nivaldo from Potatoes," Magagnin owned a potato trading and processing company and was working at the time of the accident.
He was struck by a "big bag" sack, used for large loads, which was suspended two meters high when the steel cable supporting it snapped. The load weighed approximately 1 ton of potatoes. Rescue teams believe the councilman was pressed against the ground.
No external injuries were found on his body. The accident occurred while he was working at his own potato company.
