The fifth edition of the Health Journalism Grants opened applications this week, an initiative by the Journalists' Union in partnership with Roche. This year, four grants will be awarded, one for each area — digital, print, radio, and television — each with a unit value of 2,500 euros. Applications are open until September 25 on the website bolsasdejornalismo.pt.
The preferred themes of this edition include public health, health innovation, health data, prevention, quality of life, and longevity, as well as the social value of health. The program's goal is to encourage the creation of content that contributes to a more informed society on health issues, rewarding quality and originality, with guaranteed editorial freedom for journalists.
All journalists with a valid professional card or provisional intern title may apply. The jury is composed of Luís Simões, president of the Journalists' Union, Maria Flor Pedroso, president of the Journalists' Club, Miguel Crespo, director of CENJOR, Rita Sá Machado, director-general of Health, and Cláudia Ricardo, director of external affairs at Roche Farmacêutica.
The Health Journalism Grants are a biennial initiative that had its first edition in 2018 and has already distinguished the work of 15 journalists. The winners will be publicly announced at a ceremony on a date and location to be announced shortly.
