The entity, which brings together European cities and regions in Brussels, highlighted the leadership role of cities in developing this legislation and the recognition that the proliferation of Airbnb and similar platforms exacerbates the lack of affordable housing. However, the Committee pointed out contradictions with the 2028-2034 multiannual financial package, arguing that the Commission weakens the role of local authorities in housing investments. The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, considered the law welcome for recognizing housing as a place to live before generating profits.
