Israeli Foreign Minister rules out plan to expel Gaza inhabitants

RTP Notícias9 September 2026 at 18:00

The head of Israeli diplomacy stated today that there is "no intention whatsoever to expel or deport anyone from the Gaza Strip". This statement comes after the Defense Minister revealed a plan to withdraw the population from the territory.

The contradiction between the statements of the two Israeli government members generated tension and a need for clarification from the Israeli authorities.

The plan announced by the Defense Minister foresaw the withdrawal of the population from Gaza, which raised international concerns about possible violations of international law.

The head of Israeli diplomacy thus sought to calm the criticism, guaranteeing that Israel does not intend to forcibly displace the inhabitants of Gaza from their territory.

Committee of the Regions welcomes EU law to curb short-term rentals and real estate business

The Committee of the Regions welcomed the new EU Affordable Housing Law, considering it an important first step to control short-term rentals and second homes in cities under housing pressure. The entity, which brings together European cities and regions in Brussels, highlighted the leadership role of cities in developing this legislation and the recognition that the proliferation of Airbnb and similar platforms exacerbates the lack of affordable housing. However, the Committee pointed out contradictions with the 2028-2034 multiannual financial package, arguing that the Commission weakens the role of local authorities in housing investments. The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, considered the law welcome for recognizing housing as a place to live before generating profits.
