Mário Centeno defended that announcements such as the pension bonus and IRS relief should be made within the State Budget. The former director of the European Central Bank warned that this type of measures should be integrated into the budgetary framework, suggesting that they should not be announced outside the budgetary process.
The former minister of Finance and former governor of the Bank of Portugal made these statements to journalists, without however specifying details about the format or ideal timing for such announcements.
Regarding monetary policy, Centeno refused to comment on the possibility of interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank, choosing not to pronounce on this issue when questioned by journalists.
