The Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, announced this Wednesday that a disciplinary proceeding has been opened for "alleged very serious or serious misconduct" against the police officers involved in an incident against a Barcelona fan. The facts are said to have occurred before the match between Barcelona and Elche, on August 23.

The officers allegedly beat the Catalan club supporter when they removed an estelada flag, a symbol associated with Catalan independence. The incident is said to have occurred in Elche, the city where the sporting event took place.

Grande Marlaska shared this information during a public statement, in which he confirmed the opening of the disciplinary proceedings against the police officers involved. The proceeding aims to determine the officers' responsibilities for the alleged assault on the fan.

The case arises in the context of a football match between Barcelona and Elche, held at the end of August, which was marked by this incident involving security forces and fans.
