The Health Regulatory Authority received two complaints related to the São José Local Health Unit, which swapped two corpses, delivering them to different families. The families only realized the mistake during the wake, which led the ERS to denounce "gross negligence" on the part of the hospital.
In addition to these cases, the ERS also recorded a situation in Braga, where a woman was left with gauze in the vaginal canal for a month after childbirth.
Regarding fines, the entity imposed almost half a million euros in sanctions between January and June of the same year, resulting from 143 administrative offense proceedings initiated against health establishments.
