GreenYellow concluded the installation of 18 photovoltaic solar plants for self-consumption at the Jerónimo Martins Group, in a project with 8 MWp of installed capacity that should produce approximately 11.6 GWh of renewable energy per year. The infrastructures were implemented under a 15-year on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and are already in operation.
The plants were installed on the rooftops of Pingo Doce stores and Recheio Cash & Carry, as well as at a unit of the Luís Vicente Group, a fruit and vegetable producer. The project covers 18 locations distributed across various regions of the country, including Albufeira, Amadora, Aveiro, Corroios, Lagos, Leiria, Óbidos, Odivelas, Penafiel, Portimão, Póvoa de Varzim, Sines, Sintra, Freixofeira, Torres Vedras and Vilar do Pinheiro.
The estimated annual production of 11.6 GWh will avoid more than 1,230 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, a volume equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 3,860 families. According to GreenYellow, local renewable electricity production will reduce dependence on fossil energy, decrease exposure to energy price volatility and contribute to greater predictability of operational costs.
The adopted model is based on GreenYellow's own investment and an integrated solution that includes engineering, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of the units throughout the contract duration. GreenYellow's Managing Director in Portugal, Luis Almeida, stated that in the retail sector, energy is one of the largest operational costs and a determining factor of competitiveness, emphasizing that the project demonstrates the company's ability to implement large-scale solar solutions across multiple locations.
