Six accusations of torture and five of rape: what is at stake in the trial of the Rato police officers, which begins on Friday

A trial related to alleged crimes committed by police officers from the Rato police station, in Lisbon, begins on Friday. One of the officers faces 29 accusations, including six crimes of torture and five crimes of rape. The second police officer faces a total of seven crimes.

According to the Public Ministry, the alleged assaults occurred at the Rato police station premises, in Lisbon. Some of these assaults were allegedly filmed and later shared among PSP officers.
