The Territorial Command of Castelo Branco of the Republican National Guard, through the Nature and Environment Protection Service of Covilhã, proceeded with the return to nature of a specimen of Black Kite (Milvus migrans). The bird was released in the municipality of Covilhã, thus returning to its natural habitat.
The action falls within the GNR's usual mission of protecting nature and the environment, an area of activity that involves inspection and intervention in situations involving wounded or distressed wild animals.
The Black Kite is a species of birds of prey that can be found in various regions of Portugal, being a common presence in areas where it finds favorable conditions for feeding and nesting.
This release represents another successful action by the authorities in the rehabilitation of wild species, contributing to the preservation of local biodiversity and to meeting nature conservation objectives.
