Coimbra City Council announced that Rua da Sofia will be subject to traffic restrictions during the afternoon and evening of this Wednesday to allow the implementation of the new traffic organization in the Baixa, which takes effect from September 10th. The works are intended to ensure that, in the first hour of that day, the vertical and horizontal signage and urban furniture necessary for the new street configuration are in place.
From 2:00 PM today, traffic will be interrupted in the north-south direction of Rua da Sofia, between Arnado and Praça 8 de Maio. At that time, the approved circulation will also be implemented in the vicinity of Rua João de Ruão and Rua Manuel Rodrigues, with public transport using Avenida Dom Sesnando Davides as the central route.
From 8:00 PM, Rua da Sofia will be closed to traffic in both directions to allow for equipment assembly and completion of the preparatory works for the new road organization. The operation will be monitored by security forces to ensure the necessary conditions for carrying out the works and traffic safety.
The council appeals to drivers' understanding and recommends respecting the temporary signage and authorities' instructions during this period. More information about the new routes, access points, and mobility changes is available at cm-coimbra.pt/comovou.
