A technical failure in the UK air traffic control system caused the cancellation of approximately 2,000 flights on Tuesday and continues causing disruptions at British airports on Wednesday. The problem was identified in the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) system, responsible for UK air traffic control. Although the failure has already been resolved, airlines are still facing difficulties in normalizing operations.
On Wednesday morning, another 300 flights had been suspended, mainly at Heathrow and Gatwick airports, the two largest in London. The expectation is that the effects of the interruption will still be felt throughout the day.
So far, it has not been reported what caused the technical failure in the NATS system. The cause of the problem remains without official explanation.
As several aircraft that should have arrived in the UK on Tuesday did not complete their trips, part of the aircraft and crews were left out of position to resume operations normally, contributing to the continuation of disruptions at airports.
