The Baixo Alentejo Federation (FBA) of the PS criticizes the Government for inaugurating improvement works on the IP8 in the region without acknowledging the role of socialists in their completion. The inauguration took place on Tuesday, October 8, by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito Santo, and included the construction of two new road variants near the towns of Figueira dos Cavaleiros and Beringel.
The socialists congratulate themselves on the completion of the variants, which they consider important for the safety, mobility and quality of life of the populations, but lament the way the Government marked these works, with invitations sent less than 24 hours before the inauguration and leaving out relevant stakeholders, such as Deputy Pedro do Carmo and the presidents of the parish councils of Beringel and Figueira de Cavaleiros.
The FBA recalls that these interventions result from decisions by previous PS Governments, after years of demands from local officials in the region who made them a priority, launched the respective processes and secured funding through the PRR. The Federation, led by Marcelo Guerreiro, states that the current Government monitored and completed the investments, but cannot rewrite history nor ignore who contributed to their realization.
The socialists also point out that the date chosen for the inauguration was significant, coinciding with the day that the motion of censure presented by Chega against the Government was discussed in the Assembly of the Republic. Additionally, they note that in the district of Beja, equipment completed months ago remains uninaugurated, such as the Health Centers of Vidigueira and Ourique and the intervention at the maternity ward of the Hospital de Beja.
