Government extends fuel support for farmers and fishermen

SAPO Notícias9 September 2026 at 07:37

The Portuguese government decided to extend fuel support for the agricultural and fisheries sectors. This measure aims to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs on these activities.

In the case of the agricultural sector, agricultural diesel will continue to benefit from a 10 cent discount per liter. This reduction remains in place until the end of the year, ensuring better operational conditions for farmers.

As for the fisheries sector, 13 million euros will be made available to offset rising costs. This funding is intended to support fishermen in light of the increase in fuel prices.

These financial support measures come in a context of generalized increases in production costs, seeking to protect two essential sectors of the Portuguese economy that are facing significant difficulties with energy inflation.

War between Rede Expressos and FlixBus affects Lisbon connections

The legal conflict between Rede Expressos and FlixBus over access to the Sete Rios terminal in Lisbon has intensified, with the German carrier accusing the Portuguese rival of blocking compliance with a court ruling from March 2026 that ordered its access to the station. Rede Expressos denies the accusations, classifying them as "false and defamatory," and maintains that the terminal has reached its physical capacity, making it impossible to allocate the 96 daily schedules sought by FlixBus. Faced with the impasse, the German company has moved forward with an enforcement action of the ruling and a criminal complaint against those responsible for managing the facility, while users await a resolution that balances commercial competition with the safe operation of a key node of mobility in Lisbon.

SAD do Benfica achieves profit of…

Benfica's SAD achieved a net profit of 19.1 million euros in the 2025/26 financial year, the second consecutive year with positive results, although below the 34.4 million from the previous year. The growth in recurring revenue, the control of operational expenses, and the favorable evolution of player rights explain the performance. Equity capital strengthened to 135.5 million euros, while the operating result stood at 32.4 million. Excluding the player rights component, operating revenue reached 214.4 million euros, a 7% decline justified by the absence of extraordinary Club World Cup revenue.

CAP considers agricultural diesel support falls short of expectations

CONFAGRI considered that the extension until the end of the year of the 10 cent discount per liter of agricultural diesel, which the government announced this Wednesday in Bragança, falls far short of the agricultural sector's expectations. The representative organization of farmers considers this measure insufficient given the needs and difficulties the sector faces.
