CAP considers agricultural diesel support falls short of expectations

RTP Notícias9 September 2026 at 10:30

The government will announce this Wednesday in Bragança the extension until the end of the year of the 10 cent discount per liter of agricultural diesel. This measure aims to support the Portuguese agricultural sector by reducing fuel costs.

CAP, Confederation of Portuguese Farmers, considers that this extension of the support falls well below what the sector's expectations were. Farmers expected a more significant measure.

The 10 cent per liter discount was a measure previously implemented to support farmers in the face of rising production costs, especially fuel costs.

Changing companies tends to accelerate salary growth

In Portugal, workers who change companies have registered, in recent years, higher salary increases than those who remain with the same employer. Between 2022 and 2024, those who changed companies saw their remuneration increase by about 10% to 11% per year, while those who stayed in the same position registered increases between 6% and 8%. Labor mobility functions as a mechanism for salary progression, as it increases competition among employers for talent. The major exception occurred between 2011 and 2013, during the public debt crisis and the Troika intervention, when those who changed companies had worse salary evolution due to the lower bargaining power of workers.
