Brazil's performance in Pisa, the assessment test for 15-year-old students held every three years by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), continues to be disappointing. The test is the most widely used international measure to compare the state of secondary education in over 90 countries.
In areas critical to the modern economy, such as mathematics and reading, there was a setback of two points since 2022. In mathematics, the average dropped from 379 to 377. In reading, the average went from 410 to 408. Only in science was there progress, with the average rising from 403 to 409.
Despite the small progress in science, the country's overall average has remained stagnant since 2015. This situation represents very bad news for a country with serious deficiencies in education.
