Gothic image of Our Lady with the Child returns to the Funchal Cathedral after centuries missing

An ancient Gothic image of Our Lady with the Baby Jesus was presented on September 8, at 3:30 PM, at the Museum of Sacred Art of Funchal. This artistic piece represents a long-awaited return to the Cathedral of Funchal, after having been missing for centuries.

It is believed that this image is the original piece from the Gothic altarpiece of the main altar of the Cathedral of Funchal, also known as the Sé of Funchal. Its recovery represents an important milestone for the religious and artistic heritage of the region.

The public presentation of the image at the museum allowed visitors and specialists to appreciate up close this sacred art work that had remained hidden for long periods of time. After the presentation at the museum, the image was taken to its original location at the Sé of Funchal.

The new Quaest research for the government of Rio de Janeiro, released this Tuesday, places former mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD) in isolated leadership with 39% of voting intentions. In second place appears Douglas Ruas (PL), president of the Legislative Assembly, with 18%, followed by Anthony Garotinho (Republicanos) with 8%. The percentage of blank and null votes is 14%, while the undecided sum 16%.
