The acting governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, journalist Ricardo Couto, will be honored as Chancellor of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj). The ceremony for the awarding of the Chancellor's insignia is scheduled for this Thursday (10), at 12 p.m., at the Odylo Costa, filho Theater, on the Maracanã campus of Uerj.
The ceremony is held jointly by Uerj and the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro Darcy Ribeiro (Uenf). The rectors Gulnar Azevedo e Silva, of Uerj, and Rosana Rodrigues, of Uenf, will be present at the event.
The title of Chancellor constitutes the highest academic dignity and is attributed to the governor of the State due to the exercise of the office. Among the attributions of the position at Uerj are proposing to the higher bodies measures that contribute to the expansion and development of the university, leading the University Assembly — the highest decision-making body of the institution — as well as official acts and ceremonies.
