Bullet trajectory incompatible with suicide supported arrest request for suspected PM who killed wife

cbn8 September 2026 at 18:39

Radiology technician Larissa Cruz Morata, 29 years old, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head inside the bathroom of the home she shared with her husband in Embu das Artes, in Greater São Paulo. The weapon used belonged to military police officer Vinicius Costa Silva, 26 years old, her husband. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning, and the PM's sister was also present at the residence at the time of the shooting.

The forensic report indicated that the bullet trajectory was from left to right. According to the experts, since Larissa was right-handed, she would not have been able to fire the weapon without using her dominant hand, making the initially presented suicide version incompatible.

The experts also identified that there were no close-range gunshot residue marks, reinforcing doubts about the version that the victim had taken her own life. The Public Security Department reported that the investigation found inconsistencies in the account given by the PM and his sister about what happened.

Based on this evidence, a request for temporary detention of Vinicius Costa Silva was filed. In his testimony, the PM soldier presented a version of events that was later questioned by the technical elements collected by the forensic team, leading to a change in the direction of the investigations.
