Lousã anticipates winter and cleans the Ribeira de São João after storm damage

Notícias de Coimbra8 September 2026 at 18:06

The Lousã City Hall began an intervention on the Ribeira de São João, with cleaning and vegetation clearing work in the area after the damage caused by storms. The municipality decided to get ahead of winter to carry out these actions, in order to minimize the impacts of any flooding during the winter season.

The works aim to restore the normal functioning of the stream and guarantee the safety of the populations living on its banks. Cleaning the riverbed and removing accumulated vegetation are essential preventive measures to avoid clogging of the watercourse.

This intervention is part of a broader strategy for risk prevention associated with extreme weather phenomena. The Lousã municipality recognizes the importance of acting preventively, preparing water infrastructure before the arrival of the heavier rains of autumn and winter.
