The cruise ship WORLD EXPLORER, built in 2019 at the WestSea naval shipyard in Viana do Castelo, was the first Polar Expedition ship built in Portugal. The construction cost was approximately 80 million euros and it belonged to Mystic Invest, owned by Portuguese businessman Mário Ferreira.
In 2024, the ship was sold to luxury operator Windstar Cruises. Currently, the vessel is undergoing a deep transformation at the WestSea shipyard, where it was originally built.
The ongoing conversion includes the removal of the helipad, the creation of new cabins, as well as alterations to the bow and stern. The delivery of the renovated ship is expected in December 2026.
The images show the STAR EXPLORER performing maneuvering operations to move to the new dry dock at the WestSea naval shipyard, dated September 8, 2026.
