Post-holidays: how to help dogs and cats return to routine

SAPO Notícias8 September 2026 at 15:16

The end of holidays represents a period of adaptation for companion animals as well, particularly dogs and cats. The sudden change in routines and schedules can cause stress and discomfort in these animals, who have become accustomed to the owner's constant presence and more flexible schedules during the holiday period.

Teresa Rousseau, veterinary doctor and Pet Remedy consultant, wrote an opinion article where she addresses this issue and offers guidance to owners on how to facilitate this transition for their animals.

According to the specialist, it is important that owners recognize that their companion animals also suffer from routine changes and that they need time to readjust to the usual household schedules.

The article suggests practical strategies to help dogs and cats return to their daily routine more calmly, minimizing the emotional and behavioral impact that these changes can cause in animals.
