Tarta Relena and Lambchop in the programming of Teatro Viriato, in Viseu

Jornal do Centro8 September 2026 at 14:57

Teatro Viriato, in Viseu, presented its programming until December, which includes 25 activities, seven co-productions of national creations, five in-house productions, and seven artistic residencies. The programming director, António M Cabrita, stated that the programming resulted from "a lot of listening" and the "tireless dedication" of the artists, with the central theme being "to give more time to the present." The season will kick off on October 19th with the play "Promised Valley Conference Center," by Mickaël de Oliveira, which crosses theater and cinema to question how evil manifests in societies.

Among the highlights of the programming is the show "Quimera," by the Caótica company, which premieres on October 30th, directed by Caroline Bergeron. This play uses shadow theater and video projection to propose a reflection on femininity and the freedom of each person to be who they are. The director highlighted that it will be "a very particular play, very sensitive, very intelligent in the way it uses the relationship between shadows and the analogical relationship between the body and the text."

The theater will also host two international concerts: the Catalan duo Tarta Relena, on October 24th, which crosses Mediterranean traditions with contemporary experimentation, and Lambchop, on November 18th, with their "very own musical writing, very human." In the field of dance, the highlight is "Vagabundus," by choreographer Idio Chichava, performed by thirteen Mozambican dancers who dance and sing live, on November 21st, in a piece that "recovers memories, speaks about migrations and belongings."

The season will close on December 19th with the dance and illusionism show "Tempo," directed by Kalle Nio, choreographed by Fernando Melo, and with music by Samuli Kosminen. According to António M Cabrita, this piece "promises to stir up the perception of time" and constitutes "a synthesis of this season."
