Half of Portuguese youth use AI for studying. And they are among the most distracted by screens in class

SAPO Notícias8 September 2026 at 13:30

Half of Portuguese youth use artificial intelligence for studying, according to the data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This is one of the results of the new edition of the largest international study on education.

Portuguese students are also among the most distracted by screens during classes, revealing a significant challenge for the national education system regarding concentration and attention in the school environment.

The PISA study involved more than 760 thousand students from 91 countries and economies, making it the most comprehensive edition ever conducted. This size allows detailed comparisons between different educational systems globally.

The report's conclusions shed light on the technological transformations that are changing young people's study habits and the challenges that teachers and schools face in keeping students engaged in learning activities.
