Formula 1 returns to Madrid in four days, generating great excitement that has driven up demand for tickets and accommodation. This high demand has been accompanied by a significant increase in the risk of fraud, according to the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).
The organization issued an alert about the two most likely types of scam in the days leading up to the Grand Prix. The first involves accommodation listings that do not actually exist, where consumers pay for reservations that never materialize.
The second type of fraud identified by the OCU is related to the sale of fake, duplicated, or invalid tickets. Consumers may end up purchasing tickets that do not work or that have already been used by other buyers.
Given these risks, the OCU recommends extreme caution when purchasing tickets and when booking accommodation, warning that haste and high demand create the perfect breeding ground for this type of scam.
