Trump publishes map showing Mexico, Canada and Greenland as US territories

cbn8 September 2026 at 11:43

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, published on the social network Truth Social an image with a map showing the United States controlling Mexico, Canada and Greenland, as well as other Central American countries, such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The post did not come with any explanatory text.

The image represents another of Trump's provocations to neighboring countries since he took office in 2025. At the beginning of his term, the president signed a post changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America". The Republican also changed the name of Lake Ontario, which borders the US and Canada, to "Lake America". Recently, on Monday (7), Trump called the state of New Mexico "New America".

In response to the map post, Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that the country will not be a "colony or protectorate" of any foreign nation. The statement was made during the month of the Mexican homeland, when Sheinbaum reaffirmed that Mexico is not and will not be a colony or protectorate of any foreign country.
