The Local Health Unit of Viseu Dão Lafões received funding of almost six million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Plan for the acquisition of heavy medical equipment and a robotic surgical system. The project enabled the financing of the acquisition of three imaging equipment: an angiography system, a magnetic resonance imaging unit, and a high-performance computed tomography equipment.
The new angiograph replaces the equipment previously existing in the Interventional Radiology room and allows obtaining high-quality images in real time, facilitating the precise guidance of diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive vascular procedures. The ULS states that the versatility of the equipment reinforces the response capacity in scheduled and urgent Interventional Radiology activity, and can also support Hemodynamics when necessary.
The new CT responds to increased demand and the limitations of previous equipment, with faster image acquisition and reconstruction to reduce examination times. The equipment also allows for improved cardiac studies and creates conditions for the internalization of examinations currently prescribed in primary healthcare.
Regarding magnetic resonance imaging, the acquisition of a new unit doubles the installed capacity, with ULSVDL now having two devices. This reinforcement allows for increased response capacity and clinical differentiation, particularly in cardiac and oncological studies, reducing the need to resort to external providers. The investment aims to modernize the Imaging Service, improve care pathways, and reduce response times.
