Portuguese civil protection authorities initiated a tactical operation to respond to a forest fire in the Leiria area, specifically in the municipalities of Pedrógão Grande and Graça. The fire was classified as affecting forest stand, indicating it was an occurrence in a vegetation and tree area.
The response device includes 11 operatives on the ground, supported by 4 ground resources. No aerial resources were mobilized for this occurrence. The teams have already arrived at the operation site.
This operation site is particularly sensitive, given that Pedrógão Grande was the scene of one of the deadliest fires in Portugal in 2017, which caused more than 100 deaths. This new alert comes in a context of elevated forest fire risk in the region.
