AMEC launches six new machines to reduce technological dependence on China.

The Chinese semiconductor equipment manufacturer AMEC launched six new machines during CSEAC 2026 in Wuxi, expanding its operations beyond traditional etching equipment to include film deposition technologies, extreme etching for 3D NAND and DRAM memories, as well as devices for silicon carbide epitaxy on 8-inch wafers. Investment in research and development in the first half of 2026 reached 2.04 billion yuan, an increase of 36.9% compared to the previous year, representing approximately 30.5% of the company's revenues in the period. The company is developing more than 20 new machines in various categories, positioning itself as a comprehensive supplier for chip production and seeking to reduce China's dependence on foreign semiconductor equipment suppliers, encouraged by export restrictions imposed by the United States and its allies.

Almost half of Portuguese youth already use AI to study and many get distracted in class

A study by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), conducted with more than 760,000 fifteen-year-old students in 91 countries, revealed that almost half of Portuguese youth already use artificial intelligence to study. Portuguese students spend on average one hour and 24 minutes per day at school using digital devices to learn, a value below the OECD average of one hour and 42 minutes. The study also identified that many young people get distracted during classes due to the use of these devices.
