Brazil scored below the OECD average in PISA 2025, the international exam that assesses 15-year-old students in Reading, Mathematics, and Science. Brazilian students achieved 408 points in reading, 377 in mathematics, and 409 in science, while the OECD average was 466 points in reading, 469 in mathematics, and 486 in science. The gap is 92 points in mathematics, 77 in science, and 58 in reading.
Despite lagging behind developed countries, Brazil showed significant progress over the past 20 years. In reading, the score rose from 393 to 408 points, an advance of 15 points. In mathematics, it went from 370 to 377, a growth of seven points. In science, the increase was from 390 to 409 points, a gain of 18 points.
The country ranks seventh among the largest gains in reading and mathematics, and eighth in science among the evaluated countries. This position indicates that Brazil has been advancing faster than many other participating nations in the exam.
PISA is considered one of the main international indicators of basic education quality and assesses 15-year-old students in different countries around the world, allowing comparisons of educational system performance.
