The Judge of the Santiago Instance Court Issues Opinion in Favor of Total Pardon for the Alvia Train Driver Who Derailed at Angrois

The magistrate from Plaza 2 of the Criminal Section of the Santiago Instance Court issued a favorable opinion for granting a total pardon of the prison sentence to the driver of the Alvia train that derailed at Angrois. This decision comes as part of the judicial process related to the accident.

The derailment occurred on July 24, 2013, and was one of the most serious railway accidents in Spain. The Alvia train was traveling through a curve when it lost speed and derailed, resulting in devastating consequences.

The driver was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for 79 crimes of homicide and 143 crimes of bodily injury, all committed through gross recklessness. The sentence reflected the severity of the negligence attributed to the driver in the operation of the train.

The magistrate's decision now goes to higher authorities, where the effective granting of the requested total pardon will be evaluated. This case has generated great public controversy, especially among the victims and their families, who oppose the possibility of clemency for the person responsible for the accident.
