A study revealed that an injection normally used for diabetes and weight loss can reduce asthma attacks by almost 40%. The investigation analyzed the effects of these medications, known as GLP-1 agonists, in asthmatic patients.

Researchers warn that clinical trials are needed to confirm these results. There is not yet sufficient evidence to guarantee the efficacy and safety of the treatment in these conditions.

Experts also emphasize that these medications should not be used specifically to treat respiratory diseases, and should be reserved for the already approved indications, such as diabetes and obesity.

80 scientists will discuss the challenges of cells in health and biotechnology

About 80 national and international scientists will meet from September 12 to 16 at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso (Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art), in Chaves, for the 41st SMYTE (Small Meeting on Yeast Transport and Energetics), organized by the Universities of Minho and Lisbon.
