Three men began standing trial this Tuesday in Mexico for their alleged participation in the murders of Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson and American Carter Rhoad, killed during a trip to Baja California in 2024. The bodies of all three were found days after their disappearance inside a well, all with gunshot wounds to the head.

The trial began in the coastal city of Ensenada and is expected to last about four weeks, according to the BBC. Dozens of witnesses are expected to testify, and the trial will be conducted by a single judge. Martin and Debra Robinson, parents of the Australian brothers, attended the first day of the hearing.

The defendants are Jesús "El Kekas" Gerardo and other suspects not fully identified in the article. The prosecution is seeking more than 200 years in prison for those involved in the crime.

The case has drawn attention due to the cruelty of the method used and the international nationality of the victims, which attracted significant media coverage from British and Australian press.
