Ruben Amorim played a decisive role in keeping Pervis Estupiñán at Milan during the last transfer window. The Portuguese coach, who arrived at the Milan club at the start of this season, blocked the sale of the Ecuadorian fullback, thereby preventing his transfer to Benfica.
Amorim's refusal forced Benfica to look for an alternative for the left-back position. The choice fell on Souffian El Karouani, signed on loan from Saudi side Al Qadsiah, who became the solution found by the Portuguese club to address this need.
Estupiñán, 28 years old, arrived at Milan in 2025 from Brighton and will continue to be part of Ruben Amorim's team. The Ecuadorian international could even face Benfica in the Europa League this season.
