"I buckle up, I'm alive": authorities reinforce enforcement of seatbelt, child seats, and helmets

The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the GNR and the PSP launched this Tuesday the ninth campaign of the National Enforcement Plan for 2026, under the motto "Cinto-me Vivo", which runs until September 14 and aims to reinforce enforcement and awareness on the correct use of seatbelts, child restraint systems and helmets. The campaign recalls that a correctly used child restraint system can reduce the risk of death by 71% in infants and 54% in children between 1 and 4 years, while a certified helmet can reduce the risk of death by 40%. Data from 2021 to 2024 shows that 8,210 passengers without adequate restraint were involved in accidents, resulting in 274 seriously injured and 69 dead. The authorities appeal for permanent and correct use of these devices, including on short trips, and recall that road safety begins before each trip.
