Another million-dollar heist in France: suspects steal four artworks from the Renoir Museum and flee

CNN Portugal8 September 2026 at 09:05

Four artworks from the Renoir Museum in France were stolen by two suspects who managed to flee the scene. The heist represents another million-dollar blow to France's artistic heritage.

The two suspects were identified through the city's surveillance cameras, which allowed authorities to obtain images of the perpetrators. However, despite the identification, the suspects managed to escape before the police arrived.

During their escape, one of the suspects dropped one of the paintings, which could constitute an important clue for authorities. The artwork abandoned at the scene may help identify the thieves and recover at least part of the stolen collection.

This robbery adds to a series of million-dollar heists that have been occurring in France, highlighting the vulnerability of some of the country's museums and galleries to organized crime specializing in art.
