The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the Republican National Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP) launched this Tuesday, September 8, the ninth campaign of the National Enforcement Plan (PNF) for 2026, dedicated to the correct use of road safety devices. The campaign, with the motto "Cinto-me Vivo", runs until September 14 and aims to alert drivers and passengers to the importance of correct and permanent use of seatbelts, child restraint systems and helmets.
According to the data released, a correctly used child restraint system can reduce the risk of death by about 71% in infants and 54% in children between 1 and 4 years. The use of a certified helmet, properly tightened and adjusted, can reduce the risk of death by 40% in case of accident. Between 2021 and 2024, 8,210 passengers who were traveling in the back seat without an adequate restraint system were victims of accidents, with 274 seriously injured and 69 losing their lives.
The campaign combines awareness actions and enforcement operations. ANSR is responsible for awareness initiatives through in-person actions and dissemination on digital media. The GNR and PSP intensify enforcement, with special attention to the use of seatbelts, child restraint systems and helmets, especially in places where these behaviors represent greater risk.
The National Enforcement Plan is developed annually by ANSR in coordination with the GNR and the PSP, following European recommendations and the Vision Zero 2030 strategic framework, which sets as its goal the elimination of fatalities on the roads. The authorities call on all occupants to confirm they are properly protected before starting any trip.
