Japan recorded a current account surplus of 2.99 trillion yen, equivalent to 16.7 billion euros, in July. This value represents an increase of 15.6% compared to the balance of the same month of the previous year, according to preliminary data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
Japan's trade balance recorded a deficit of 399.9 billion yen, representing a worsening compared to the deficit of 187.7 billion yen from the previous year and the deficit of 135.2 billion yen from the previous month. Exports increased by 24.1% year-on-year, reaching 11.25 trillion yen, while imports grew by 25.9%, reaching 11.65 trillion yen.
The services balance recorded a deficit of 512.9 billion yen, an improvement compared to the deficit of 771.1 billion yen from the same period of the previous year. On the other hand, the income account achieved a positive balance of 4.28 trillion yen, an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year.
The transfers account presented a deficit of 387.9 billion yen, representing a reduction of 23.8% compared to the previous year. The balance of payments reflects payments and receipts arising from exchanges with the exterior of goods, services, income and transfers, being considered one of the most comprehensive trade indicators of a country.
