Blinding mirrors, tapestries that protest and bodies that dance in the most feminist season of the Reina Sofía

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General8 September 2026 at 07:37

The Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid will present a total of nine exhibitions during the 2026-2027 season, eight of which will be dedicated to women. This figure reflects a programming that aims to review the hierarchies of the art world to incorporate names, territories and practices that have remained on the margins of central narratives for decades. Artists such as Eli Cortiñas, Marta Minujín, Anne Truitt, Fernanda Laguna, Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, La Ribot, Marlene Dumas and Pacida Abad will be some of the protagonists of this season. The museum is also strengthening the presence of live arts, public participation and work with its own collections. The body emerges as one of the common elements among very different proposals, being understood as a political space, a territory of conflict and a creative tool.

Nothing from Virginia! Anitta invites Viviane Araújo to crown her at Grande Rio: 'Queen of queens'

Anitta invited Viviane Araújo to crown her as the new samba school queen of Grande Rio, in Caxias. The decision replaces the initial possibility of Virginia Fonseca, and the choice for Viviane is due to Anitta considering her the "Queen of queens," in addition to her father and brother being big fans of the reveler, who has been reigning at Salgueiro for 18 carnivals. The invitation was intermediated by David Brazil, who was also responsible for inviting Anitta for the position. The crowning is planned for this month, during the final of the school's anthem competition for the 2027 carnival.
