Users accuse Grindr of sharing HIV data

Users of the Grindr dating app accused the company of sharing data regarding their users' HIV status. The accusation claims that this sharing of sensitive information was done without the appropriate consent of the affected users.

A lawsuit was filed in 2024 by approximately 12,000 users against Grindr. This significant number of participants in the lawsuit reflects the extent of the alleged privacy violation that affected a wide base of the platform's users.

The Grindr company responded to the lawsuit stating that the reached settlement "does not include any finding or admission of guilt". This position of the company is clearly intended to distance itself from any formal acknowledgment of responsibility for the alleged facts.

However, despite not admitting guilt, Grindr publicly acknowledged the "suffering and loss of trust" on the part of the affected users. This acknowledgment, while not constituting a formal admission of illegality, represents an implicit recognition that something went wrong in the way sensitive data was managed by the platform.
