oglobo7 September 2026 at 18:53

São Paulo's Military Police used tear gas bombs against a left-wing protest group that was trying to access Avenida Paulista, where an event with presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) was scheduled. Videos on social media captured the moment of the chaos on Monday morning (7).

According to reports from people present, the left-wing group was carrying banners against Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) and tried to access Paulista when they crossed paths with a group of Bolsonaro supporters heading to the right-wing demonstration. The PM was blocking access via Alameda Santos and prevented the left-wing protesters from entering, throwing tear gas bombs.

The corporation stated that in the area of Rua Peixoto Gomide with Alameda Santos, a group attempted to invade the space designated for another antagonistic group, at which point the PM and the GCM (Metropolitan Civil Guard) intervened to contain the parties.

The Military Police reported that it reinforced police presence on Avenida Paulista due to the demonstrations scheduled for the day, seeking to avoid confrontations between groups with opposing positions.
