This is the camp to host migrants at the port of Ceuta: 16,000 square meters for a thousand people

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General7 September 2026 at 16:42

The government of Ceuta, led by Juan Jesús Vivas, initially refused to use the city's sports centers to host migrants, but later agreed to use the port plots to register migrants, although it subsequently changed its mind. The Executive of Ceuta argues that there are reports contrary to this use, while the central Government speaks of a "trap" and accuses the local authorities of delaying the solution.

To circumvent Ceuta authorities' veto and be able to use the port facilities, the minister approved an order during this weekend. The Popular Party classified this decision as an imposition, intensifying the political conflict between the central government and the local government.

The central Government points to the opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as responsible for the failure of negotiations with Ceuta, suggesting that the goal would be to prolong the migration crisis until the elections. This situation highlights the political tension between the different levels of government.

The Ministry recalls that the only solution to resolve the crisis involves housing the migrants in these tents, with capacity for around a thousand people in a space of 16,000 square meters, so that they can be properly registered and processed.
