Ventura reacts to the far-right victory in Germany: "It is a historic cry of revolt"

SIC Notícias7 September 2026 at 18:15

The far-right victory in Germany is being closely followed by other European nationalist parties. This international mobilization reflects the growing attention these parties dedicate to electoral results across the continent.

In Portugal, André Ventura reacted to the result of the German elections, classifying it as a "historic cry of revolt." The leader of the Chega party thus expressed his interpretation of the meaning of this result in the European context.

Ventura attributes the success of the German far-right to voters' discontent with the implemented immigration policies. Beyond this issue, the Portuguese politician also pointed out that the results reflect citizens' concerns with the economy and with the loss of identity.

New affordable rent scheme still waiting for decree to get started

The new Simplified Affordable Rental Regime (RSAA) came into effect on September 1st in Portugal, but the decree that defines the maximum rent limits by typology has not yet been published, and the electronic platform of the Housing Portal where landlords and tenants can register is also not operational. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing confirmed that the decree is "pending publication", but did not specify when the IHRU platform will be available. The RSAA exempts landlords from income tax or corporate tax when they rent at 80% of the municipal median rents, and replaces the previous Rental Support Program, which had very low uptake with only about a thousand contracts signed. The Lisbon Property Owners Association criticized the lack of essential regulation for landlords to join the new regime.
