The deputy of Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) in the Assembly of the Republic, Filipe Sousa, submitted a Resolution Project recommending that the Portuguese government immediately reduce the tax burden on fuels. This initiative comes in response to the significant differences in gas and fuel prices between Portugal and Spain, which the parliamentarian considers unacceptable for Portuguese consumers.
The document proposes the creation of an automatic mechanism for reducing the ISP (Excise Duty on Petroleum Products), so as to automatically adjust taxes according to market variations and price disparities with the neighboring country. This measure aims to ensure that prices in Portugal approach those recorded in Spain.
Additionally, Filipe Sousa advocates for the implementation of measures to control profit margins of operators in the sector and protect consumers from the continuous escalation of prices. Juntos Pelo Povo believes that Portuguese citizens are being penalized compared to Spaniards, which represents a situation of inequality that the Government should urgently resolve.
