"A victory that gives hope to Europe": Chega celebrates AfD, to whom it remained close during the most difficult moments

Chega celebrated the results of Alternative for Germany (AfD), considering them a victory that gives hope to Europe. The relationship between the two populist right-wing parties has been marked by constant closeness, even in the most difficult moments.

Chega's leader, André Ventura, hosted one of AfD's leaders in the Portuguese Parliament, demonstrating the mutual support between the two political forces. This visit symbolized the alliance built over the last few years.

The partnership survived the 2024 controversy, when AfD left the Patriots for Europe group, of which Chega was a part. Despite this departure, which created tension between the parties, the relationship was not broken.

What unites the two political projects is their common opposition to immigration, a central theme in both parties' campaigns and that has been the basis of their European collaboration.
