The Vice-Presidency of the Government of the Azores opened calls for the awarding of five doctoral scholarships, in an investment aimed at strengthening the advanced qualification of human resources and the scientific and technological capacity of the region. The two calls for the awarding of scholarships are funded by the Regional Fund for Science and Technology (FRCT). This initiative aims to strengthen research and scientific development in the Azores, enabling the training of researchers at the doctoral level. The Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPO-Porto) performed more than 73 thousand Radiotherapy sessions in 2025, treating 4,768 new patients, in a service considered the largest on the Iberian Peninsula. Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, five linear accelerators are being replaced with more advanced equipment, in an investment of approximately 38 million euros, of which 10.6 million are destined for the acquisition of the accelerators. The institute is also preparing the construction of the National Protontherapy Center, with the start planned for 2029.
