Vox files complaint: takes Sánchez and Marlaska to court over management of massive influx in Ceuta

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General7 September 2026 at 16:29

The Vox political party announced on Monday that it will file a criminal complaint against the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and the minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, over the management of the massive influx of immigrants in Ceuta at the end of July. The complaint will be filed for the crimes of prevarication, collaboration with terrorism, omission of the duty to rescue, and injuries.

The decision was announced by Vox's legal coordinator and leader of the party's delegation in Brussels, Jorge Buxadé, who considered that the government's actions during the migratory crisis in Ceuta were liable for criminal accountability.

The massive influx of immigrants occurred at the end of July, when thousands of people crossed the border between Ceuta and Moroccan territory unexpectedly. The episode generated great political controversy in Spain over the Executive's response to the situation.

With this complaint, Vox intends for the justice system to investigate whether there were irregularities in how the government managed the crisis, questioning the decisions made during that critical period in the autonomous city of Ceuta.
