FOUR DAYS ARE OVER. NINE ARE COMING — BUT WHAT ABOUT THE HOME TALENT?

oRegiões7 September 2026 at 15:42

The Sabores de Tradição Festival in Castelo Branco concluded a four-day edition, and mayor Leopoldo Rodrigues announced that in 2027 the event will have nine days of programming, divided into two periods: from May 26 to 30 and from June 3 to 6. The growth of the festival was presented as an added value for the municipality.

In the opinion column published by the newspaper O Regiões, Fernando Jesus Pires questions whether the growth of the event also means greater appreciation of local resources. The author acknowledges that the municipal executive sought to convey an image of budgetary restraint and of using the city's means and talents, but raises doubts about whether the "home talent" is a strategic choice or merely a convenient solution.

The article highlights that Castelo Branco has professionals, associations, clubs, artists, communicators and local entrepreneurs with experience in the territory. However, the author questions whether these were consulted and under what conditions, or whether external solutions were preferred when opportunities for greater media exposure arose.

Fernando Jesus Pires raises a series of questions about hiring criteria, the costs of each option and what is intended to be done differently in 2027. The author concludes that, for a festival called Sabores de Tradição, the true tradition should involve valuing the people who keep the municipality alive, questioning why the city, having its own resources, so often seems to need to resort to external solutions.
